only thing that comes to mind is the operating relays are "fail safe - open" -- that is the relays are normally operating when power is applied , but when power is interrupted they assume a closed position in the motor circuit to open the door. Normally closed relays that normally operate open when power is on are closed - opening the door when power is restored.
