HP scanner.

No experience with that particular scanner. Two things: First, have you contacted HP help about the problem? They are VERY helpful and quick to respond. Second, if it's beyond hope, that is hardware related, and would be too costly to repair it, HP does have a terrific repair/upgrade program. They'll give a 'discount' toward an upgrade unit if you send them the old one.
