screw drive

your garage door opener probably has a broken up limit switch. If you look at the carriage on the rail. it should hit an object that is designed to trigger and electrical signal identifying that the door is up and needs to stop. I am assuming you have a screw drive. This shouldn't be that expensive, less than 100 dollars, but i would recommend a better opener.
