Shower stall levelling

What is the best method to level a shower stall being installed on a concrete basement floor? I have seen a mortar bed and foam discussed. My stall has a ~1" lip on the front that will make the rear be that much lower. Can I saw cut the concrete to slide this lip into or would it be better to level with one of the ways mentioned above?
