some of the early burners were dvd-r and dvd+r specific. (like 2003 and earlier). I would check the drive for + or - and compare that to the blanks you have. You may need to just buy the other media.
(my guess is you have a - burner and + media)
I have a top of the line standalone Pioneer DVD-R burner (2001) and it won't play + discs burned on my pc, but plays the - just fine.
It started out being the VHS vs Beta war all over again.
All new computer DVD burners play and burn + and - now.
