Black and Decker have a whole range of books on many subjects, electrical, framing, plumbing...etc...etc available at most big box stores in teir magazine racks.
They will give you a general idea of some tricks and more importantly some things NOT to do, the electrical one is a good one for anyone who knows little about electricity, nothing hard and nothing over your head, just general information and plenty of diagrams.
(lol, just read what I typed above, makes it sound like I'm on Black and Decker's payroll ((which I'm not))....
