Washer will not move through cycle - keeps washing

Hello everyone,

I bought a Maytag Atlantis Washer and Dryer last July and have started to see a repetitive problem. When I start a load of laundry, the washer will not progress through the cycle. The dial remains where I placed it (have tried moving it to different starting points - heavy, normal and light loads) and the agitator keeps going. It never moves to rinse, etc... If I stop it and let it cool down, most of the time it will continue through the cycle once restarted. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Anyone have any suggestions? I really hate to pay for a repairman when the unit just went off of warranty and we paid so much for a "quality" machine. Thanks in advance!!

sounds like the timer is kaput! When the timer moves, different contacts make up for the different functions - There are a set of solenoids on the washer transmission that kick in and out for tub spin, agitator etc.
