missing refrigerator parts helpful hint.

We just bought a house, and with trying to completley renovate from top to bottom in the living and dining room, we are saving by NOT purchasing new appliances (which I desparatley want)... so we are making do with the refrigerator left by the previous owner.

Our problem was, no racks to hold anything in on the shelves in the door. My partner came up with a BRILLIANT idea (i thought at least) we purchased two of the 18" nylon covered bungee cords, and hooked them in the holes. Worked like a charm. Just thought I'd share in case anybody else needs it.

We had thought of looking for replacement, but we are going to be replacing it when we renovate the kitchen, which should be a few months, so, until then, we deal with the bungees....

Now that's a handy site!

That's what I figured when you said "we are making do with the refrigerator" so I didn't suggest you check out the 'Repair Parts' section of my web site to find out how to go about getting the proper replacement parts for your appliances.

BTW. Shelves for refrigerators are often very expensive. Door bars/shelves too unless it is just the plastic end caps which have broken and you still have the metal, rail part.

JFYI

I just came across one that illustrates that point (see the following link). Although not all door shelves/bars are that expensive and GE parts tend to be among the most expensive replacement parts from my experience, it gives you an idea what consumers can run into.

But don't give up on a repair until you've actually priced the replacement parts. You can sometimes be pleasantly surprised.
