Kenmore Dishwasher Rinse Agent Disp.

Model # 587.1540590

My dishwasher was in the house when I bought it. Several months ago I filled the rinse agent dispenser with liquid and it has never been used. The dispenser is still full. Any ideas on what I can look at to try and fix this problem???

Thanks in advance.

The dispenser inside the door.

The rinse agent dispenser is actuated by a 'bimetal' trigger (see the following link). If that bimetal was open, it would never open the dispenser to let the rinse agent out.

There may be a possibility that the dispenser is just caked up and needs to be cleaned or that its plunger (which is attached to the bimetal - see the following link) has failed.

The outer door panel is going to need to be removed and the dispenser mechanism itself looked into.

JFYI

Thanks for the info! Now all I have to do is see if I can remove that door and tinker with it and still be able to put it back together when I'm done! Thankfully the previous owner left us all the manuals so hopefully I can see what I'm doing.
