Oven wont heat to right temp

I have a Capri stove/oven Model #911.6108912
The problem that I am having is that while the oven heats it doe not get to the tempature it is supposed to. I need to set the oven at 475 just to bake anything. If anyone could help that would be great.[V]

Does the oven burner light right away after turning the thermostat on? Or does it take several minutes (or more)?

It starts heating up usually as soon as the oven is turned on.I opened the broiler part and watched as I turned the oven on and it lights up as soon as its on

You could check the thermostat's sensor bulb (tube) in the oven cavity to make sure it isn't touching the oven wall or a rack. Unfortunately if that's not it, I can't think of anything besides a problem in the thermostat itself which could be responsible.

Sounds like a bad thermostat to me. If it's an electronic thermostat you just replace it, if it's manual then have someone check it or try to do it yourself. Using an oven save thermometer put it in the oven. Set the oven to desired temp, wait for the burner to lite and go out, turn on the light and see what the temp is. If it's a manual thermo. you can adjust it by removing the knob. There will be a screw inside with a dial. You turn the screw counterclockwise to increas temp. I think, hard to remember. It goes in small increments so turn it a couple of knotches and try again. If there is no screw inside the thermo.(behind then knob) then it is electronic. Order a new one and replace it.

Thank you all I will check the bulb first then try and replacing the thremostat. I know that is electric and not manual.

Well the good news is an electric thermostat is much easier to change than a manual one. When the burner lights has no effect on the thermostat. Sometimes when the ignitor grows weak the burner will light late. However the thermostat is not on a timer, it is controlled by temp. Making sure the temp. is off is the first step. Where are you located? If anywhere near NC call Cashwell appliance parts for the part, give the model and serial number of the range to get the correct part. However in light of repacling the thermostat you can use the thermomoter to termine what setting on the dial reaches what temp. and bake accordingly for a while. The electronic thermostats range in price the cheapest being about $25.

That model range is a pilot ignition model with hydraulic thermostat (see the link above in my previous message) which actually controls the flow of gas to the oven burner and pilot. It is NOT an electric or electronic control.

Good job Dan, in that case if you pcshrink are unfarmilir with gas I would suggest you stop here and call for help. This thermo. will be adjustable and if trully bad, a little more difficult to replace.

I had an electric stove doing the same thing and it turned out to be the bake element(lower). I replaced it 26.00 and everything works again.
