whirlpool fridge ED25DQ dispenser water drip

The cold water dispender on my refrigerator (Whirlpool ED25DQ) has developed a small drip when not in use. I would like to rectify but have no idea where to start. Pushing the actuator lever to dispense water sounds like it opens a valve deep within the door... I'm assuming that valve needs replacing... Anyone have any experience with this or should I leave it to the professionals?? Thanks in advance for your help and thoughts! Sincerely, John

That is only *part* of a model number, did you get it right off the appliance's model and serial number tag? That is the only reliable place the complete model number will be found.

That can be caused by as simple as just not enough water pressure to the valve to hold it closed. The water supply to the fridge should be checked for blockages and/or kinks. Blockages could included a plugged sediment screen at the water valve or at the water valve on the house water pipe. If a self-piercing type saddle valve was used or any type was mounted on the underside of a horizontal pipe, it would be a prime suspect.

Only a drill type saddle valve should be used (if not a regular plumbing tap) and only installed on the side of a vertical pipe or top of a horizontal pipe.
