More disposal problems--spitting water back up

My garbage disposal worked fine all day, except for just now when we turned it on. It grinds (or sounds like it's grinding) and then when shut off, spits the cruddy water back up into the sink. The water isn't really draining, either, just sitting there. What can we do?

Troy is an unknown quantity at this point
I guess it could be that the drain is clogged below the disposal. Sounds like what happens when the water can't drain fast enough. Let us know!

If you have peeled potatoes or carrots or tried to send rice down the disposal, then that is your problem........ clogged drain. Well you for sure have a clogged drain. If you can't clear it with a plunger or pulling the trap, you may have to call a plumber and have him snake it.
