Cold air pouring in through hood

My kitchen is like Siberia: above my range I have a Zephyr ZSA-M90S hood and the cold air is simply pouring in. AND the little button for the light switch keeps falling out (minor issue compared to the arctic blast!).

The Zephyr website isn't very helpful....any thoughts?

Yes, install (or repair an existing) back-draft air damper on the vent on the exterior of the house or possibly in-line in the ducting or in the hood itself. None are 100% tight though.

Most existing hoods should have one installed already so someone might have to check for a malfunctioning one.

Thanks. Easier said than done. I live in an apartment, five stories up....I was looking for something I could do from the inside.

When not in use, plug it with a small dish towel.

Than ask the landlord or apartment maintenance to look into it.

BTW. Be very careful stuffing anything flammable onto the hole to try to block it off!

if you can get the blower out of the unit - take it out and look into the duct. if there is a grease build up in the duct, the hinged part of the damper might be stuck open. use a good degreaser to clean these pivot points.
