GE Portable Dishwasher not draining

I am a proud owner of a GE Nautilus portable dishwasher model no. GSC3304F02WW that does not drain. I want to try and find the problem, but don't know where to start. Can some one send me in the right direction?

I can find no listing for that model number. Is it by chance a Canadian product?

It doesn't drain at all or it just doesn't drain fully?

Has anyone inspected the drain hose for blockages or kinks?

Are any sounds being made when it should be draining but isn't?

Canadian...

Thanks for the quick reply Dan O.

It is most likely a Canadian product as I am in Canada.

It doesn't drain at all I'm fairly sure because it flooded out the dishwasher door. I think a small amount my drain out, but very slowly.

As for sounds... I am definitly no expert, but it sounds like the motor might be struggling a little bit when it is supposed to be draining. A little more high pitched than usual i would suppose. I have taken off the back and inspected the insides, but nothing overly obvious.

Any clue for next step?

Motor?

So I took off the hose today and made sure it wasn't clogged: it is clean, and since all the water in the dishwasher leaked onto my floor when I pulled it off I take it the rest is clog free.

So probably means my pump is shot right?

Anything else I can check?

Update

Sorry for the multiple posts. So I turned on the dishwasher to drain cycle without the hose on and water flew out, so I reconnected the hose, and 1 time some water came out the top, and the other 2 it appeared to be sucking water in the middle, and spitting it up out of the back, back into the dishwasher. That would probably mean the pump is working, but does anyone know how to fix it from pushing water cyclically through itself and direct it to the hose?

Thanks in advance

Than I'm afraid I do not have parts list for it to look up how it was designed.

It shouldn't over fill the tub whether it was draining or not. The float should prevent additional fills if the water level got too high. Some water might splash out the bottom of the door during a wash if it was a bit too full though.

On the most common GE dishwasher designs (in the US and Canada) there is a solenoid coil (see the following link) on the side of the pump that switches it from wash to drain. That solenoid could have failed, there could be a problem with its linkage or a problem with the drain 'flapper' valve inside the pump housing. It could also be possible that the control system is just not powering the drain solenoid like it should.

Definitely out the door

Thanks for the reply again Dan O.

Ok... Water definitely did flood out the door... A lot of water... All over my floor when i first turned it on.

Here's what is happening. Water gets sucked in from the middle bottom of the dishwasher, and shoots up through the back middle bottom through a filter (shoots hard enough to hit the top of diswasher with lots of water). I remove the filter casing and there is a little circular hole with something that I believe is supposed to plug it when water pressure builds from below to drain the water back into the sink. So I plug it with a wet towel and everything works as it should, the dishwasher drains.

So I'm left with the question... Can I just plug the hole and let it run with no real consequences? I was thinking a couple of screws and a plastic peiece would close that thing right up. I can't even figure out what it does.

Anyways, thanks again in advance.

You may be referring to the 'check valve'/soil settling chamber with its piston and nut?

LINK > GE Dishwasher 'Piston and Nut' Asm.

On GE models that utilize it, a malfunctioning or deteriorated piston and nut can cause draining problems.

But does it still wash correctly? On dishwasher models that use the above system (I'm flying blind here), it alternates water flow between parts of the wash system and drain.

In other words is it a totally useless feature? No. Most things on an appliance have a reason. It is always better to try to find problems and correct them rather than attempt to change the design of an appliance.
