Kenmore Electric Dryer, heating element stays on!
My Dryer quit on me the other day, the heating element stayed on 24/7 but it would'nt spin. So I took it apart, cleaned it out, and found out it was the thermal fuse that went out. I changed the fuse today so the dryer now spins fine, but as soon as I turned the power back on the heating element turned on with no button being pushed. I think it's the thermostat, but I'm not sure. If anyone has any advice or help, please reply.

After doing more testing, realized it didn't heat up until I pressed the button. It would stay on for a long time after I release the door switch and the dryer stops. I figured it would be ok if I used for the mean-time but the clothes came out super hot, and the temperature was set on low. So is the thermostat or the switch? I'm going to take it back apart and check it out, I have a nice meter, so what I should ring out for continuity? I appreciate your help? Thanks

I would guess it's the switch on the motor, when the motor stops running the switch should open up killing the power to the heating element.
Probly the two big red wires on the motor switch. Check with your meter to see if they are shorted after the dryer has stopped running. They should not be.

I have tried to take apart the shell of the dryer to get to the motor switch, but I can't find any screws to take the case off. I loosened the two bolts that I'm assuming is holding the motor on the back of the wall, but I can't figure out how to get to it. I'm stumped and don't know how to dis-assemble the frame of the dryer to get to the motor. Please help me!!

Well I got the cover off, but I don't see any switch on the motor, just a plug for power and it looks like something might pull out on the back of the plug that has two blue wires connected on it. It's driving me crazy, I can't win for losen. If you can help, please explain so I can stop the madness. Thanks for all your help.[}  ] |
