IR sensor not working on Pioneer receiver

I have an older Pioneer audio receiver, about 12 years old. The remote control stopped working the other day. New batteries did not help. The remote also controls the TV, CD, VCR, etc. and it operates these devices fine. I also have a fancy touch screen remote that I programmed to operate all my devices. It also will not operate the receiver, but all the other devices work fine. This leads me to believe that the IR sensor in the receiver is not working. Has anyone ran into this before? How easily could this be repaired? This wouldn't be a big deal, but many of the receiver functions can only be accessed via the remote.

The IR receiver is a infrared photo-transistor, soldered into a circuit board. You may be able to purchase a replacement if you know the infrared spectrum this device covers. Check your instrument schematic for a part number. You may need to write or do a search at Allied Electronics for discrete components.
