Hp Scanjet 5400C/W XP...

This Scanjet worked GREAT on my HP Pavilion /98 and on wife's Dell Dimension 4600/XP. Until recently. Many issues cleared up on the HP/98 after un/re installing the scanner software. Scanner worked great once again. But just can't get it to operate efficiently on the Dell anymore. Software successfully loads in, but the message always comes back "scanner not recognized". Di the un/re install with no success. We merely switch the SB from one machine to the other when we want to use it. Any suggestions?

Does XP see the scanner? You might try going to START, PRINTERS AND SCANNERS, SCANNERS AND CAMERAS and then if the scanner doesn't appear there, try to "add imaging device." If you end up with an icon you may then be able to use it to scan. Sometimes the user software is more finnicky than windows is.

Scanner....

Thanks, Sailork. Have been in contact with HP about this and followed their suggestions as to the button squenceing and it still didn't work. It's where you hold down two different buttons, unplg machine, wait few seconds and plug back in, then release buttons. It worked okay for maybe three cycles and went back to it's ability to not scan again. Much whinning and groaning. Am waiting for HP reply.....
