Compaq Presario

My wife has a compaq presario and the onboard clock doesn't keep accurate time. Her machine is on 24/7 in standby mode when she's not using it. The time is off about 12 minutes plus or minus most of the time. Could the lithium button cell be bad?

Batteries are cheap, it's worth trying.

Also, what operating system is on it? If windows xp, or several others, try running this command in start > run

net time /setsntp: "time.windows.com clock.psu.edu"

Let me know if that helps...

Then this should work. It will set your computer to sync with these time servers and coordinate the time properly...

I typed in that string two days ago - it now keeps accurate time, no bumps and skips - Thanks!

SueK is an unknown quantity at this point
Hi HayZee, I have found that it is better to turn the computer off or restart it to clear all the stuff out that I had been doing previously. I am on 37.2 speed and not 56, and would have to get satellite, too, but find it is too costly. If I leave my computer on standby it doesn't refresh and it runs much slower.
