new deck

What are the experts thoughts on treating a newly installed white cedar deck floor. Some say to leave it alone , it has to breath , etc. Can I protect it without hurting the look and longevity??

well UV light(sunlight) will start to damage wood as early as six months. With cedar you will see graying sooner. If you like how it looks and want it not to become gray as soon I suggest a clear sealer. Look at products that have either linseed oil, alkyd oil or both in them. Stay away from products that sit on top of the surface like T .. A good stain, clear or otherwise should penetrate into the wood fibers and not sit on the surface. If it is on the surface you will walk it off in a matter of few months.
