Bathroom extraction fan problems

I have a problem with my bathroom extraction fan. It is a timer unit which comes on with light.

THe problem is that when the light is switched on, the fan only works intermitantly. When you switch the light off the fan works OK until the timer cuts off the power.

Any ideas what the problem is?
