surge protecter

Any info on whole house surge protecters would be nice. Building a house in the mountains with alot of lightning. Thanx TJ

Surge suppressors will protect dwelling units in high ligthning areas. All they consist of is a double spark gap that shunts the high voltage to earth ground. Normal 240 power won't jump the gap but a couple million volts will easily jump this gap seeking a good ground.
