Question White to Black? Bathroom exhaust fan

The bathroom exhaust fan in a mobile home burned out. It connects via a connector with the house line. Upon removal I noticed that the black from the house line actually joins through the pin connector with the white wire on the fan and the white wire from the house line joins through the pin with the black wire to the fan.
Was this connected wrong? Does it make any difference? How should the new fan be wired?
Thanks, MOBoy

Assuming this is a 110 fan, the black should go to black and the white to the white. looks to me it way back-wired. if the fan is controlled by a wall switch, and the hot is at the fan then the two wire from the switch would be connected with the white wire taped black connected to the line black, the return black from the switch to the fan black. The whites are neutral and are just spliced together line and load(fan)
