Question how do I fix a short out

I think my dishwasher shorted something out. It didn't complete the cycle and I figured out that there was no power anymore going to it or a couple other outlets in the kitchen. When I trip the circuit breaker it makes a "pop" noise somewhere around the dishwasher. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need to call an electrician... Thanks!

The "pop" may just be a solenoid valve closing on the dishwasher, or it can be the door latch releasing.

Was the circuit breaker tripped and did you have to reset it and does it retrip?
Is the breaker a GFIC breaker?
What other outlets are no longer working when it trips?

Being its in the kitchen the outlets are going to be GFIC protected by code.
