Touch-up painting nicked baseboards etc.

My 40 year old house had dark wood paneling, cabinets, and baseboards, all of which were painted over in white by the previous owner. I've had the home for ten years, and nicks in the paint have slowly appeared and exposed the dark wood underneath. I don't know what kind of paint was used. Is there an easy way to do touch-up painting on these spots?

I forgot what they are called exactly, but you can get touch up sticks in various colors at your local hardware store. The ones I am familiar with look like big highlighters.
