Framing 2 Story House

I have a two story rectangular house. The basement is not finished and I can see the first-floor joist above. Can I assume that the second-floor joist run in a similar manner?

Theroreticly they should, but it depends on what size lumber you are using and the spacing between the joists and where (If any) is the load bearing beam. I would realy need to see the plans before I can give you a definitive answer. I would also need to know if you the basement ceiling has wooden "I" beams, floor trusses, or conventional lumber, is there a load bearing beam (Usually this will consist of 3 2x's gang nailed together and run 90 degrees to the floor joists and either hang into the beam or set on top of, are you going to use manufactured roof trusses, or hand frame the roof system. I beleive I can help as I am a class "B" VA state (USA) licensed contractor. We build houses, but mostly we just do framing, siding, and roofing. If you are interested maybe you could email me a set of the plans.
