Damp problems

Hi folks,

Advice appreciated if anyone has experienced the following:

The story I have is there were once concrete skirtings in the old 2 bed terrace I have bought, which were replaced with wood, but in so doing the damp proof layer (assuming there was one) has shrunk back, and damp is rising from the subfloor. So basically I have damp rising in several places on the walls (including the wall in the middle of the house), and some of the skirtings have rotted.

How do I solve this? Do I deploy a specialist damp proofing firm to attend with can of foam, or is there a more robust solution?

Anyone else experienced this?

Jimmer is an unknown quantity at this point
Emile,

If the wood has already started to rot then I would say you are going to have to remove the wood and replace it with wood that resists rot (naturally like Cedar, Redwood, Cypress or use Pine or Fir treated with chemical preservatives) or use a material other than wood for skirting that is impervious to water like Synthetic lumber that is made of Plastic, Vinyl, Wastewood and Rubber.

Good luck, Jim
