Repair bathroom ceiling

My husband and I recently bought a home that will need some bathroom rehab. The ceiling over the tub/shower slopes starting at one side and sloping steeply from 8 ft. to about 6 ft. side to side. The shower head is only inches from the sloped ceiling allowing water splashed during showering and from the water head to damage the ceiling. We cannot raise the ceiling there as it is part of the roof line that runs from the top of the house to the garage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
