Question from new home owner

Greetings All,

As a first time home owner, I'm working on my house.

There's a panel that's in front of the doorstep that I need to cover.

I first thought that it was a kickplate, but I understand that a kickplate mounts at the bottom of the door, not in front of a doorstep.

Can anyone tell me what this is, so I know where to go and what to ask for?
