Outdoor Faucet

When I purchased my home, I did not realize that the outside faucet was a "frost-free" type. I found out the hard way that once you leave your hose on the faucet during a freeze, that ruins the faucet. We had replaced the pipe inside the house; however, this did not correct the problem. (We did not replace the faucet itself -- perhaps this is the problem.)

The problem is that when we turn on the water, without the hose attached, it works great. However, once we connect the hose, water gushes out everywhere else except through the hose. Before we go another step further, does it sound like the faucet itself? We've used 2 different types of hoses and that is not the problem.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Make sure the end of the hose that you attach is open and not closed with a spray valve on the other end. The reason water sprays out of the top of the faucet is cause that is a backflow preventor and it is sensing backflow from pressure on the hose. Let us know if it works with an open end hose.
