Moldy Eaves

I live in Washington State and as many know moisture is an issue. I am discovering that bottom-side of the eaves on the back side of my house are collecting mold. I am obviously concerned because of the damage that mold can cause. Is there a way to rid this from my house without damaging the wood, and is there a way, other than repainting with a mold resistant paint, to keep this from forming again?

Mold means that moisture is getting up inside the structure either by a cappillary action or just a hard driving rain.
