painting or refinishing a bathtub?

Our bathtub is old and the finish is worn and instead of ripping up the bathroom and replacing it, I was wondering if any of you have used those kits to change the color and give the tub a new look. Do they work?

most tub refinishing kits like they advertise on house & garden TV work pretty good but involve a chemical process to prepare them for the finish. also a spray gun is almost always needed to apply the epoxy coating.
