fixing the squeak in stairs

I have an entire staircase with a squeak on almost every stair. There is no under-the-stairs access at present. Any ideas to reduce squeak? They are 100 year old hardwood and I'll be refinishing them. I've read about nailing and sinking the nails, but placement is not clear. (I could knock out a closet wall and get at em underneath as well, I think.)

Here's a link that should give you some info on how to solve your problems, it would help alot if you had access to underneath.
