dull hardwood floors

We recently bought a house that was built in the 1980's. The hardwood floor is very dull and dry looking. I had a flooring man look at them and he thought they did not need refinishing but just oiling or waxing. Which is better oil or wax? Which products would I use to do it myself? How do I do it?

Oil like tung oil will nourish the wood actually get absorbed into the pores of the wood and give it a satin patina. Wax coats the surface
