Laying Carpet in basement

I have a small room (13X10) in the basement that I want to lay a piece of carpet in. I've seen other posts on here talking about laying a tack strip into the concrete. Is this really necassary? I would prefer just gluing down to the floor directly. If I do glue down is there a way to stretch or not? Any special types of carpet to glue down? There is no water problem in the basement.

thanks

Use tack strips if you are using underlay. Underlay will keep the carpet padded and insulated from the concrete floor. If you are not planning on walking on it much or being in the room much then go ahead and glue it but it will give you a harder, colder finish
