Please Help

I'm trying to install ceramic tile to my entire floor and I have a few questions. How much of the glue do I need to remove from old carpet and what would I use to remove it? There is very little there to begin with and it isn't very sticky. There are also small dips from removing carpet nails. Do I need to fill these with something? I also have a full sheet of vinyl in my kitchen that is very thin. Can I tile over this? My tiles are 16 x 16. Last question. Can I complete one section at a time (waiting the appropriate time before walking on) and then move my furniture back and then start with another section? I don't have enough room to remove everything at once. Thank you so much.
