Question Vinyl on cement floors

We recently pulled out an old carpet and now just have a cement floor. We want to put down vinyl squares. Do we need to lay something down on top of the cement before laying down the squares? First time doing this.

Wash the floor with a solution of TSP (Tri-Sodium-Phosphate and water) and rinse well. Now let dry or force dry. Concrete is very porous and sucks up moisture, so,........apply a silicone sealer. When that's dry use a good tile adhesive and go for it!
