How should I build up kitchen floor to install new cabinets?

I am working on a full kitchen remodel. A tile floor was added a few years back and the tile was run up to the existing cabinets. A subfloor and concrete were added prior to installing the tile. If I pull out the existing cabinets I have a 1" drop between to 2 sections of the floor.

I need to build up the floor so the new cabinets will sit flush with the tile. I also have to retile a few areas because I'm changing my cabinet configuration.

I've seen plywood, a wood frame that the cabinets sit on, and even pouring a self-leveling compound to bring up the floor.

What is the best way to do this?

Thanks,

Kevin

to be honest with you man...if you're doing a full kitchen remodel, tear it all out and start new. that's the best and easiest way. if you want it to look good in the end.

Kevin, Ideally your cabinets want to sit on top of the floor to get proper height. A new floor may not be in the budget but sounds like your getting new cabinets so the Question is How to build up the floor.
First off you will want to get all cabinets out....then build up floor SOLID makeing sure the top layer of this floor is what we call Cement Board(This is sub-strata material that should be used under all tile floors) Leaving it below the top of tiles so new tiles will match height of old.
Tile the area (if me I would tile it complete in case I wanted to change at a later date).
place new cabinets.

Cheapest and fastest way would to be simply to add 1" in a floor grade ply wood cut to fit the lower area, you might have to use 2 x 1/2" thick pieces. Screw all this to the existing floor then place the cabinets on top.
If you need to set new tiles in some places, substitute the top 1/2" ply in these areas with 1/2" backer board then glue down the tiles.

Adding tile completely under the cabinets may not be possible depending if the current tiles are already cut along the old cabinet line, then you would have to tear out more tiles to match it in.
