It depends what type of painting you're talking about. If you have a rug and would like to do a painted border or checkered pattern or something like that, it's allowed. You would have to use a dry-brush technique though, and be sure to use fabric paint from a craft store, or something that will soak into the fibers Latex paint for your walls will look funky on regular nylon-pile carpet. What I've actually been planning on doing myself is painting a border with that same technique on a sisal rug I own. Let me know if I helped at all.
