Putting Hardwood on Stairs

So I think we have decided to investigate adding our own wood floors on the stairs. I was thinking 1x10" would cover the stairs nicely. Anyone have any suggestions or experience on this?

Patricia is an unknown quantity at this point
There are hardwood floor stair kits. I am not sure how much they are relative to how much it would cost to have it installed professionally but it seems to me that a kit would be the easiest thing for a novice to install. [:I]
