are you referring to a building trade apprenticeship???
and is this apprenticeship backed by the State?
I don't know about the area you are in, but in most provinces of Canada an apprentice in bldg trades has 4 to 5 years to finally become a "journeyman". Each year of an apprenticeship consists of a certain number of hours working in the trade (approx 1800 hours per year).A total of 7200-9000 hours is needed depending on the trade.
Several weeks at a trade school are also required 2 or 3 times within the 4-5 year time frame. Upon satisfactory completion of this 4-5 year learning period the individual will then be given a "`Certificate of Qualification`` in that field.
Ps
I hope you are not referring to us being an ``apprentice`` as we are both being labelled (lol) on this home repair site.

Hey, Troy. Being an "apprentice" makes me feel young(lol) again. So even if I get to the 500 or 1000 level you can still lable me as an apprentice. I don't mind.

Pushkins,
It could be much worse;
I had a cousin who shipped out as a deck crew member on a commercial fishing boat.
He wrote and told us the for the first three voyages he was classified as an apprentice baiter
from 4 to 6 voyages he was a journeyman-baiter but on his last trip out the Capt designated him as a "Master-baiter"
