Garage door safety eyes

Has anyone tried to mount a set of eyes in parallel to the existing eyes that are mounted near the floor? I would like to add a set of eyes at about bumper height so it could catch a car that is pulled 1/2 way in.
I am not going to raise the existing ones and want to add an extra.
Thanks for the info. I could always make an afterfactory one work but,
If a set just like what I have will work, Im going to do that! (might have to wire in series.) Thanks

just get another set of eyes - transmitter and receiver and parallel the wiring. the transmitter is just an infrared photo led and the receiver is an infrared photo transistor.

I was going to try that, I was wondering if it work since one may be clear, and the other is blocked. They would be mounted about 16-24" from each other. Thanks, Bill

One set of eyes only

Undewriters Labratories regulations are designed to protect human life from injury or death. Thus they are designed to prevent injuries and death, with little or no consideration for property damage.

The only way to utilize two or more safety reversal mechanisms is to install a commercial operator with the necessary circuit board technology.

As far as I know, you can not do 2 sets of photo eyes, they are not designed for that and will not work properly if tried. Of course you could always call their customer service center and verify that. If you have chamberlain products AKA LiftMaster, and Craftsman ( many others) or Genie products (AKA Overhead Door co.) their websites give out the number. I will try and add them here later.
