down spouts

Is it safe to bury a downspout and let the water go strait into the ground or does it need somewhere to escape?

Troy is an unknown quantity at this point
You want to move the water away from your house. A shallow hole next to your house will just fill up and saturate the dirt. Can you redirect the water away from the house?

I used a plastic extension which moves it about 3 feet from the house

Run the down spouts to "daylight". You can bury them, but make sure they open to daylight at their end. Note; The further away from the house foundation the better. Hube
