New sod

Hello, I am a new homeowner and don't really know much about landscaping or gardening for that matter. I want to put sod down in my front yard, because until recently all I had were weeds. I have removed all the weeds out and I have turned over the soil. Are there any techniques I need to know to prepare the soil before I put in the sod? Do I need to put down a "lawn fabric" to keep weeds from coming back? Thanks in advance!
