SOD lawn repair / replacement

I live in Washington State and have a healthy 3 year old sod lawn. This year I have identified several small areas that due to damage / foreign growth material that require replacement. The areas are less than 18 inches square and I plan to do it with sod from the same farm where the original lawn was purchased. QUESTION... when (now, March, April) would be the best time to install the replacement pieces of SOD? Should it be done before I start spreading fertilizer/insect contol products? Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

the best time would be at least a month before an application. preferably more in which case I would use ringers lawn restore or ironite on the replacement areas.
