its havoc with my hvac please help

I have a coleman evcon electric heat and air unit in a manufactured home. I have changed the thermostat among other components in the air handler. I believe the thermostat is hooked correct i have 5 wires blue wich i think is used only if i have a heat pump? white yellow red and green. I called the manufacturer of the thermostat (hunter)and they said to put red yellow and green together and if the compressor comes on it means the thermostat is faulty. It did not come on but here is the other situation the compressor will come on when i push the contacter outside so i know the compressor is working and when i hooked the heat direct the heat also worked so they are both working i did go ahead and replace the contacter and it still would not kick on the wires from the outside unit were also replaced its a white and red wire that comes inside to the air handler and then there are white yellow and red that goes to a fuse could the wires be crossed does any one know where the 5 wires connect in the air handler and why i only get a fan to run and no heat and air please dont give me advice to call a proffessional because i am sooo broke with 5 kids to feed and its next to impossible to find any extra for a heat and air guy or gal thanks in advance your help will be much appreciated

Hube is an unknown quantity at this point
Donna; Welcome to the forum. Without knowing what components exactly you have replaced it would be difficult to give any remedy. Also, why was the T stat changed? Was the old one faulty? What make, model # was the old one? What were the symptoms of the Unit prior to making these changes. Sorry to hear of your $$ problems, but some times you have to bite the bullet. Its very hard to teach a 4 year + course in a few lines within a reply.... Anyways, post back with the added info, and we will try and advise further.. NOTE: The use of Periods in your messages will also make them easier to decipher. Thanks... Hube

thanks hube lol on the periods my son mentioned that to me after he read what i posted. I dont know the original thermostat model or number not good hugh. the symtems where the dogs chewed the wires on the outside unit that lead into the air handler and the air didnt work only the heat. We replaced the wires and 24 volt relay contacters transformer. Can you tell me where the wires go from thermostat to airhandler i think that may have been miswired. I have a blue red yellow green white. blue is a big ? yellow suppose to be cool. white suppose to be heat. green suppopse to be fan and where exactly to they hook up at the air handler?

Id ask first when you put the wires back after the dog got them what didnt work???? On the tstat R is power
Rh heating transformer power
Rc cooling transformer power
W heating load
Y compressor
G fan

W2 2nd stage of heating
Y2 2nd stage of cooling
C common

So you can see here that if you put R Y G together the AC should run I think the guys at hunter should go back to school

ED

My mistakes dont define me they inform me.

after i put the wires back (red to rh, jumper from rh to rc,yellow to y green to g,white to w, blue on rc the only thing i got was the fan running. then i replaced the contacter at the outside unit. would not engage on its own it only worked when you manually pushed it in. Now the air works but still no heat and the air only works with on and off switch. It will not run on auto. hunter also asked me to test the thermostat by connecting the white green and red and if the heat came on it meant that it was a faulty thermostat. The heat did not come on when i connected those 3 wires the fan only came on

p.s on the hunter thermostat there is a red wire built into the thermostat that says to place it in the A slot if electric heat and the Y if heat pump. I know this is stupid but i am not sure if i have a heat pump the heat element is just a coil.
I appreciate the replies soooo much hope you can help me fix this problem
Thanks Donna

If you put R -G -W together why I dont . Yes the Fan should come on and the heat. I think your colors are messed up here .If you look inside the unit on the blower door there should be a wire schemtic. Draw our what colors go to what. Like has been asked why did you change the tstat out????? ED

i am not sure if there was a click at the outside unit. this is a split unit and the fan did come on but the heat did not i did not hear a click in the air handler

the reason for the thermostat change was i thought it was shorted on when the dogs chewed the wires at the outside unit

you said it sounds like my wires are messed up are you saying the wires at the thermostat or the wires in the air handler? Unfortuneatly the wire diagram in the air handler where faded and i requested a wire diagram from coleman

Thanks again for all your patience Donna
