Fan on unit

Hello, I have a problem with a Coleman Evcon central air unit. Its about six years or so old, and last season the fan (on the unit outside) started humming pretty loud. Well this season it looks like the fan has giving up working all together. The air still blows cold in the house, but the circulation fan on the unit is dead. To me it looks like the fans bad, I see you can order them and Im thinking of pulling the old one getting the part number and ordering and replacing it. Does this sound like the right diagnosis, I have worked as auto mechanic and in construction for years (im 44)so I feel capble of the job. Ive checked the fuse box and everything looks fine.
Does this sound like a bad fan or is there another fix. Any help appreciated.
Bill

If the outdoor fan dont run turn the AC off Right now. When the outside unit calls for cool give that fan a push, with a stick now look out when you do it. If it runs then you just need a capacitor for it .If it dont, turn power off and get a new fan for it it will be 220volts take it with you so you get the righ one check the way it turns CW or CCW and look at the RPM on it.Also get a new capacitor with it at that time .[8D]

Thanks for the reply imeduc. I have kept the AC off for fear of hurting it. And one of the first things I did was try to spin the fan with a stick (no dice). I will shut the power off and and pull the fan taking note of the things you mentioned. We have several supply houses around. One more question though on the fan wiring harness, is there a quick disconnect or plug to unhook it. The wires run into a protective plastic tube.
Thanks again.

Write down and mark the wire colors. If you can ,tie a string to the wires when you pull them out of that tube. then when you get the new fan tie its wires to the string and pull them back down in there.
