Tonage/Sq.Ft. and Outlets per room Sq.Ft.

Hi, right now, we are cooling our 1400 sq.ft. house with an 11ooo BTU window air conditioner. 1 Ton is 12ooo BTU, right? We are putting on a 1250 sq.ft. addition, and also adding geothermal heat/AC to our entire house. I figured, we're slightly less than doubling our house size, so a 2 Ton unit should suffice. A 3 Ton unit would be more than enough. Yet the guy thats ordering the Geo. Unit, and helping us install the ductwork ordered a 4 Ton unit. Is this over-kill?

All duct work is in the ceiling. Returns are ~12" from floor.

Also, in our new 28' x 19' great room, he installed (3) 6" duct outlets (w/e you call them). Yet in our current 18' x 14' living room, he installed only (1) 6" duct. Is this right, or should there be two in the living room?

4 Ton, heh, we should be able to make icicles in every room in about 10 min...

Thanks,

~Jonathon Reinhart

Id say you have a lot to think about here. You have to see the prints to say what you need and what the heat loss and gain is for the AC load. On registers what kind will he use???as to how many.4 ton sounds like over kill . But I dont know. If the AC unit is to big then it will never get the humidity out of the home like it should and wont work right. For a good DXgeo go to www.amgeo.com and look what they have. Thats the best one that is out now dont mess with a water to water or well to well GEO heatpump.
