Complete Damper Assemblies & Damper Plates can both be purchased at any HVAC Supply house as well as most larger hardware stores or Home supply Centers.

To install a complete damper assembly in an existing duct run would require cutting a narrow section out of the duct.

A much easier method is disconnect the existing duct at a joint, then punch a 3/8" diameter hole in the duct wall on opposite sides and install a duct damper plate in the existing duct.

The duct damper plate has a threaded shaft on one side, to which the control handle is then attached. The pin on the opposite side is spring loaded to allor for easy installation.

In the trade we often just buy the damper plate hardware and cut a circular piece of sheet metal to the desired size, then attach the hardware with pop rivets.

Sounds good, the only problem is I cant find a HVAC supply that will sell to me and Home improvment stores don't seem to carry 7in or 5in Damper Plates. Any place online to get them? I guess if it comes down to it I can make my own but I really do not want to do that.

You can buy a complete damper assembly from a hardware store and take the plate out of it.. Just unfasten the screw on the handle and the plate will slip right out....They are pretty cheap and easy to take apart.

Look in your hardware store,,they will have duct and flue pipe all in the same area.

Then you can disconnect a section of your duct, punch two holes,,insert the plate and your done...

Out of curiosity, why would you require a damper unless you are installing new ductwork? Normally the dampers are placed in the ductwork during initial installation and then adjusted by the installers to insure a balanced airflow throughout the structure. properly adjusting dampers and balancing the airflow is a very complex and tedius task, which when done properly requires some fairly sophisticated measuring devices to determine the air flow. Just arbitrarily re-adjusting or adding a damper in any section of existing ductwork can and usually will unbalance the entire system.
