is gas just not as warm as other heating methods??

the reason I ask is because it just does not seem like the air coming out of the registers are HOT, the air is definitely warm but not HOT....we have lived in this old house for about 1 yr and all homes before were electric ceiling heat so I think I am just not used to gas heat.


I just want to make sure it is not the furnace or anything I can do about it....If I really crank up the thermostat so it stays on A LOT then it gets real HOT but my heat bill is already hot enough so I would rather not keep it cranked up...

also should I keep the fan on ON OR AUTO???? ty in advance!!

PS furnace is 5 yrs old..

If the ducts and blower are sized correctly you should not feel a really hot blast of air. It should be in the order of 20 deg hotter than the room air.

On the other hand, if you have the FAN/AUTO switch set on FAN, the fan is running full time and you wont know when the burner is on.

Keep in mind that on heat most fans are controlled by the air temperature in the plenum. When you first turn the heat on there should up to a minute delay to allow the burner to warm the air in the plenum before the fan starts, otherwise it would be blowing a blast of cold air first. In turn, when the heat is turned off, the fan may continue a few moments to clear the last of the heated air out of the plenum before it switches the fan off.

If you set the FAN/AUTO switch to AUTO the fan will only run when the heat is on..When the thermostat is set on FAN the fan is in a manual mode and stays on full time. It is ok to run it in FAN mode if you want to keep the air in circulation and get more filtering, but for economy it would be best to leave the FAN/AUTO switch in the AUTO mode for both heat and AC, then the fan will only run when they system is actually heating or cooling.
