Carrier Infinity 18 SEER system

We are currently building a house in Houston, TX which is about 4,000 sq ft. The standard air conditioning in this house is a 12 SEER unit with allergen filtration systems, fresh air damper, ultraviolent light system, and Honeywill programable t-stat. The builder is offering an upgrade to the Carrier Infinity 18 SEER system for $7,000.

We plan on staying in the house for the long haul and are leaning toward selecting this system. Does this upgrade price seem reasonable for this size home?

Your comments are appreciated.

Check out a Train AC you can get a 19 seer. But best buy is the Trane XL16i has a seer of 17.00 and with a heat pump of 10.55 HSPF. they do a better job of dehumidifi. For there and you are going to stay in the home long Id go for a heat pump for sure. look into it
For a filter dont go with a EAC kind get a good pleated kind up to a MERV 5 and put a new on in every 30 days. $7000 sound very high

ED My .02 cents

My mistakes dont define me they inform me.

Thanks for your input. Since we are building a plan house with a national builder we are at their descretion on choice of subcontractor and brand of equipment - Carrier. This is really the only upgrade HVAC package they are offering.
